EARLY MUSICWORKSHOP

CREMONA BAROQUE RESIDENCY

The Foundation Amilcare Ponchielli of Cremona organizes an Early Music Residency, within the next edition of the Monteverdi Festival, in order to offer a deeper understanding and training on the XVII and XVIII century Italian repertoire, based on an historical informed performance practice. 

Alessandro Tampieri, principal violin of the renowned ensemble Accademia Bizantina, will hold the workshop on Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerti Grossi op.6 and the Roman school. The workshop will lead to a final concert programmed within the Monteverdi Festival on 18th May 2018.

The workshop will be held at the Ponchielli Theatre, according to the following schedule: 

Monday, 14th May: 14.00-17.00 pm / 18.00-20.30 pm
Tuesday, 15th May: 10.00-13.00 am / 14.30-17.30 pm
Wednesday, 16th May: 10.00-13.00 am / 14.30-17.30 pm
Thursday, 17th May: 10.00-13.00 am / 14.30-17.30
Friday, 18th May: 10.00-13.00 am / General Rehearsal h. 18.00 pm / Concert: h. 21.00 pm

The workshop is open to young musicians of Italian of any European nationality, age range 18-30 years old, playing the following instruments:

- 6 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, 2 double-basses
- Continuo Section (1 harpsichord, 1 theorbo e 1 harp).

For the workshop, participants should use the baroque bow and instruments with gut strings; the pitch will be A=415 Hz. During the workshop, one will investigate notions as per historical treatises, period instruments, continuo technique and textual criticism. 

Participation is free (no fee is due) but attendance is compulsory. Candidates admitted to the workshop should guarantee their participation for the entire workshop and the final concert.
Participants may require free accommodation provided in a premises chosen by the Theatre (for five nights, twin room accommodation, 14th-18th May). Participants will not receive a fee for the final concert on the 18th May 2018.

ALESSANDRO TAMPIERI

Born in Ravenna, he began his musical studies in his hometown. Since his youth, he has been a member of Accademia Bizantina as violin and viola player. In his concert activity as a violist he has played as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles and in symphonic and opera orchestras (Teatro alla Scala). He also developed an interest in contemporary music and he collaborated with Luciano Berio and Azio Corghi for recordings and première performances. Constantly broadening his knowledge in the field of early music and having a flair for improvisation, he has devoted himself mainly to this repertoire with the violin.

He collaborates with Il Giardino Armonico, l’Arpeggiata, Academia Montis Regalis, Ensemble Artaserse (Philippe Jaroussky), Imaginarium and Suonar Parlante. He regularly performs at the most important European and American early music venues and festivals. He has recorded for Teldec, Decca, Naïve, Harmonia Mundi, Hyperion, Virgin and for the major European and North American radios.

He teaches at the Conservatory of Music in Monopoli (Bari). 

Since 2011 he is concertmaster of Accademia Bizantina.
